I'm just starting a "Carol Vorderman Easy 14 Day Detox" - it's nothing drastic, just cutting out things like wheat, dairy, meat, sugar, caffeine, alcohol etc. So you can still eat solids! Wondered if anyone else had tried something similar and if there's anything I should know!

Incidentally, a friend will be out of the country and asked me to keep a diary so that she can catch up when she gets back. Day one:

10am
This morning started remarkably well.

Porridge (OK that’s normal). With soya milk (OK I’ve had that before, fine). And honey (yup, that’s what I normally have on it). And raisins (ooh that’s different!) and dried apricots. So essentially today I get my normal breakfast, and then some. This detox thing is dead easy, I don’t know what all the fuss is about.

1pm
Lunch. Just had the carrot and coriander soup I made last night. I think I must’ve accidentally added antimatter or something because I’m sure I wasn’t hugely hungry before I had it, but now I am. I wonder if it was the blender? It was new and I forgot to wash it. Maybe they polish the insides with digestive enzymes.

Actually I thought I might have killed it within the first 30 seconds of use. There’s a huge tempting button on the front that says “Pulse”. I was blending the soup on setting 1 and it was just too there – I had to press it. It sort of whined and sped up, followed quickly by a burning smell. I stopped and sheepishly poured my soup out. Hopefully it’ll just have been a temporary burning smell since it’s new. Hmm…

4pm.
A banana and 3 ‘corn crisp breads’ later the hunger has subsided. Those corn crispbreads are bizarre, I was eating the first one and someone spoke to me. What I aimed to do was to take it out of my mouth and politely ask them to repeat themselves. What I actually did was to swing round with half a crisp bread firmly attached to my bottom lip, going “wab?” Took some time to peel it off. Also some dignity. Honestly. I never have that problem with biscuits.

I don’t feel like the carrots. What was I thinking, bringing carrots? Granted, I made the soup last night (the carrot soup made of carrots) but I had hoped my amnesia wasn’t such that this morning I thought what I’d really want this afternoon was more carrots. It appears I was wrong about that.

I’ll have an apple.

Familiar, anyone?

Well, it sounds to me like you're just not eating enough! There are more healthful foods out there than carrots and apples! Unless this is a diet too, I'd suggest cooking up some really yummy veggie/tofu stirfry and eating plenty of it!

ROFL. I think you are clearly having too much fun so far. Detox and any type of dieting is supposed to be PAINFUL, gosh darn it! And if you've still got those carrots left, send them over, will you? I'm dying for carrots! The dog took my protein shake off the table and drank the rest of it when I stepped away to answer the phone, so I'm starving. But that's the requisite PAIN, you see?

Best wishes with the blender. That doesn't sound good.

Are your apples and carrots organic? Apples, in particular, have lots of toxins.

I did an elimination diet years ago but don't remember the results.

I'm doing a colon and toxin detox right now.

Have you ever done a fast before? It is supposedly recommended but the only times I have ever succeeded with one was when I was sick!

Good luck to you RH1. I dont think I could stick to that cleanse... I hope you feel better after you are done. I am going to start my cleanse again this coming week. Mine is 2 shakes and a meal, then a 1 to 2 day fast. It is for 30 days.

If I'd stopped at what I put above for a day then I'd agree with you completely! What I hadn't done yet at that point was get home and make dinner - my gosh it was enormous! I'd already read somewhere that you probably need bigger portions if you're suddenly cutting out carbs and meat etc, but I made the book's recommended "bean provencale with olives" and it was piled nearly 2 inches high on the plate! It was fabulous actually as I ate at about 6pm and I didn't go to bed hungry or need any snacks.

Tonight is tofu stir fry as it happens

I'm now having my lunch, which is cardboard with home squidged hummus. Aka rye bread with home-made hummus...

LOL - sorry I'll try to sound more miserable in future

Pain.... pain... I did just hit my knee on my desk, does that count? See you're hardcore. I'm just not that hardcore.

Blender is going back tonight, it's had it.

Carrots yes, apples probably not actually! Thanks for the tip!

What does your detox involve?
