Indeed. I've experienced very very cold weather in Duluth, MN. It says on weather.com that the coldest temperature recorded in Duluth was -37. Double that with below zero wind chills and you've got absolutely horrid and dangerous weather. Below zero weather is horrible to begin with, but the wind chill makes it a frozen hell, so to speak.

Me too, jaada. I HATE hot weather. I don't love cold weather either but I sure would rather put on more clothes to warm up than having to depend on an a/c. Right now it's 95° at the water and 80% humidity and my a/c hasn't been off except for two days for over two weeks! I so dread the electric bill for this!

Believe it or not, the COLDEST SPOT in the US is right here in New England. Atop Mt. Washington. Only 6K something feet high, it's where all the winds converge that flow across the country and makes it the coldest, most windy spot. I'm not sure if I saw "in all the world" or not but that may be too. I do know for fact about the US though.

There was still snow up there when I went up in the late of July one year!!!

of Lowest Temperature on Mount Washington? [Archive] - Mount Washington Observatory Forums.

"That's just the way it is. -47F is the coldest official temperature Mount Washington has ever recorded."

Slight point of order, the coldest in the Lower '48 is a -71F in Montana. Here in the Midwest, Minn has hit -60F, and my home state has got down to -55F.

I won't contradict you, Geechie. I saw something on the weather that I thought said those things. Do you think I can find that video now? Of course not! So, I may not have had the temp correct but the winds sure are the strongest. Maybe that's what they said! It's tough seeing things when I can barely keep my eyes open for the news!

-47 or -71, the truth is BOTH are sooooooo cold that I doubt anyone here could tell the difference.
Cold like that is absolutely BRUTAL - especially with a wind.
Until one personally experiences something like that, the fact is, they really don't have a clue as to what COLD really means.

I love it when that happens! I saw the rain, it sucked, I looked over the valley and saw rain pouring down over there. None here though.

Very true, LordB. I've never experienced THAT much cold and wind but what we sometimes get here is enough for me!!! Like I said, though, I'd much rather have cold than heat any day of the year. I can at least warm up somehow.

It was so cold it actually BURNED (ie instant frostbite) anywhere that bare skin was exposed.

THAT cemented my dislike for winter weather.

PS - My dad spend a year in northern Alaska on the DEW line on a mountaintop just below the Arctic Circle - and he says that with the wind in North Dakota it was colder THERE than anything he experienced up in Alaska. Either way - wayyyyyyyyy tooooooooo cold.
I remember that "burn". You learn, real quick, just how to bundle up to protect yourself. I left Fairbanks when it hit -40 and wouldn't have stayed that long but I was kinda 'stuck', waiting for my ex to get back from fighting fires in the lower 48. Two days after I finally got to leave he got back! Poor guy had to drive the Alcan to No. Idaho in that! Being a bona fide 'desert brat' I'm not crazy about ANY super cold weather! I don't even remember it being all that cold in MI or ID.

I do too although I'd bet there are plenty of people who'd say there are extremes right here in AZ! I can deal with these "extremes" though.

My sister lives in Sioux Falls, SD and that sounds a lot like their winter weather. I don't know how she stands it up there. I hate wind chill. That's even worse than regular low low temps.
