I didn't like the maroon plates when I first saw them but I agree we are due for a redesign of the "standard".

Although, when I think back, I drove a bright red car then which would have looked horrible with a maroon plate so that might have played a part.

I do think it is odd they don't automatically mail you new plates at some point because mine definitely looks the worse for wear and I am not going to go stand in a line to fix that. (I don't actually know how you get them, just that when I lived in an a different state they showed up in the mail every so often).

This thread made me look into it a little and at first glance I don't see how you can easily replace a damaged "standard" plate as the links all seem to be for specialty plates! Too lazy to do it anyway tbh. When I get a new car I will get them to get me a new plate.

If you belong to Triple A you can go there and they do all that stuff, including plates. My closest office was at 40th and Greenway. No lines, no waiting. Maybe 5 minutes.

Currently, the session ends in July so it won't be brought up until January 2024 hearing if it garners enough interest. These plates will not replace the current 2023 version, but as an alternative like many other states are doing. The only difference is they'll be screen printed and updated with current technology that all the other plates use. Hope for the best.

Have you heard anything back from the representative now that it's February? This would make a great option!

I have the old maroon plates on both my new-ish (newer than the "new" plates) cars......wish I had the old yellow and green plates (those were classic!).......remember: once you have a plate, you own it and can transfer it to a new vehicle you acquire.....

Yeah, it surprises me how many people's lives are so boring that they find a need to worry about a flimsy piece of metal hanging off their car.

I agree the standard plates look dated now. Honestly that color scheme seems like it's from the 90s when purple and teal were all the rage. I had the dark colored Arizona agriculture plate when I was living in AZ until recently. Looked good with my black car. More choice is a good thing IMO.
