I just switched from State Farm to the Hartford on my auto insurance.

I don't have to notify DMV...do I?

Already found my answer. Was able to accomplish it online, and yes, it is required.

Insurance companies notify MVD of all policy cancellations, non-renewals and new policies.

And I presume they did...but I did not want to assume they did. The reason I switched companies recently were all the slip-ups by State Farm. So I don't trust.

But I do appreciate you responding.

So you don't trust *either* of your insurance companies - the old one or the new one? Why did you pick the new one then?

No, you don't do it, the company does it.

PS, we dumped State Farm years ago. They would not let us change agents, ours was useless, and I changed companies. Problem solved.

I had to laugh...all the way through the claims process I kept complaining about their lack of communication and time lines, and when I dumped them they asked why. Duh!

I will say, however, that in my case the local office was fine; it was the claims agents who screwed up. And it seemed to be based on one stupid way of doing business. Instead of each claims agent having a dedicated email address, there was one email address for all the claims agents. At least that's the way it appeared. So dumb.
