What months would one generally rule out weather-wise in visiting north rim Grand Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs?
That would be too hot in daytime >85 degrees or too cold snowy in daytime <50 degrees

The North Rim shuts down it's amenities like the lodge and store on October 15th. Road going into the North Rim closes and locks a gate across it on either December 1st or after the first big snowfall (whichever happens first). Then the North Rim reopens on May 15th, with zero access to it from December until mid-May. The gate is almost 40 miles away from the rim, that's a long way to snow shoe or ski in.

Thanks. So that seems to leave June, July, August, September. Are these months too hot >85 degrees daytime temps, or not??

Why not just look at a weather data website for monthly statistics?

^ Good resource but like to also get local experiences.
I recall visiting the South Rim in July or so decades ago and very hot.
How does North vs South compare in June, July August, September?

The North Rim is 1000 feet higher than the South Rim. If I had to pick based on your parameters, go for the six week period after Labor Day until mid-October. It might be hot for a few hours in the afternoon, but the mornings and evenings will be cool.

The North Rim is over 8,000 feet in elevation, so you're not going to have many "hot" days at all. Maximum temperature is probably going to be right around 85 degrees during the warmest part of the summer. Overnight lows can drop pretty rapidly, especially if there are no clouds and low humidity. Any summer month would be fine, but keep in mind that June tends to be very dry, while July & August will likely have some thunderstorm activity in the area.

Vermilion Cliffs isn't all that far from the North Rim, but it's significantly lower in elevation, and in a desert location ... thus, summer temperatures will be quite a bit higher. You might find the spring or fall more ideal for visiting Vermilion Cliffs, and you could still see the North Rim as well, even though it will be probably be quite a bit colder than you prefer.
