Interesting article about a proposal for commercial air service from Gwinnett. Think it will ever happen, or will opposition and/or red tape make it a pipe dream?

It will never happen. Neighbors won't allow it.

For the longest, I've wished that Southwest Airlines would fly into either DeKalb-Peachtree or Briscoe Field (their well known turnaround times wouldn't last a minute at ATL airport), but I know that'll NEVER happen. Too much residential development nearby + all the NIMBYism that would involve. All hell would break lose.

It definitely won't happen at PDK. There is a group of nearby "watchdog" residents (call themselves the "PDK Watch") that hound the airport board meetings and are convinced that any sort of construction work undertaken at the airport is being done specifically so that PDK can bring in commercial service. They are the biggest impediment to any kind of progress at the airport. They are so paranoid about any sort of changes or improvements.

Not sure if Briscoe has a similar problem, but if word got around that commercial service was coming there I'm sure the neighbors would be up in arms.
