I have lived in my happy little town of Hutto for almost 2 years now. Love it here! I am wanting to start up a small business in our lovely little town! I know a grocery store would be the best thing to happen to Hutto, but I don't have the investors for that ha! I would love to start up a bowling alley or something along those lines. There is NO family entertainment places like that nearby. My favorite little bowling spot in north Round Rock closed down last year so there isn't much to choose from near enough. I think it would be a great idea as a Hutto homeowner, mom of 5 and noticing that every person on my street has at least 1 kid age 15 and under. I'm still in the very early stages of planning. It is literally just an idea at this point. I was wanting some feedback from other residents of Hutto and nearby to see what they thought and maybe get some info on what it should be. Or if I should just drop the idea all together. It would be awesome to have an affordable and fun place for kids and adults alike, while keeping money in the community. Thoughts?

Well, we currently have Westphalia market so that helps for a mom and pop grocer. You may be too recent a huttoan to remember the hoppin hippo, but after the owners closed it to do something else, there were lots of sad moms around here, so it could work.

@ love roses, I'm from California but, I have only had the privilege of living in Texas since 1998, lived in hutto in 2005 for a short time and then came back early 2010. And never leaving again! Such a great community we live in! I live in Brushy Creek Meadows, love the schools and just the atmosphere in my neighborhood. and BTW I am in love with Westphalia market. Those Hippo Eggs are made with love! We go there at least 3 times a week. Best meat I have had in a loooooong time! I'm amazed at the growth of hutto in just the past 7 years since I lived here last. I always make sure to shop as local as I can Westphalia, Margo's Liquor and Rio Grande (I know the owners from round rock. Catered my sisters wedding!) I don't want Hutto to become a "Big box" type of city, I think it will lose it's appeal if it does. My father owns a business here in Hutto and he loves it! Entrepreneur runs in my blood! If you don't mind me asking, why did the hoppin hippo close down? and in what year? What did they NOT have that would have made it better? I don't want to appeal to just mom's but the high school, young couple, and older folks crowds as well. There has been a population explosion over the past decade. I want to make it a really nice facility (not just a warehouse looking place) My brother in law is a business planner and told me it would be a great idea, but I just wanted some perspective on what real Hutto residents thought. I don't want to invest in something that will not be good for the community. Thank you for your insight. Much appreciated!

Albeit I'm not paying Hutto city taxes... but I am just a few hundred yards from the city lines... my answer would be anything - put anything in. Even on our side of the line, my wife and I constantly say that a taco house/mexican restaurant at Red Bud and Gattis School would make an absolute killing. At least Hutto has the taco shop on the east side of the Home Depot shopping center (forget the name) as an alternative to Rio Grande... other than that, you'd think almost anything could do well - but then many places have come and gone.

There is one on Gattis School just east of Red Bud... so it may be too close for competition - though those are cool, affordable, low overhead I'd imagine (relatively at least)

From a family point of view - I'd go to a putt-putt place like crazy. I miss the little family mini-golf places that existed when I grew up in the SA suburbs... outside of Main Event and Austins Park and Pizza - neither of which I'd go to for putt-putt, I don't know of any. I guarantee I'd go to one in Hutto very often with my kids to play putt-putt on the weekends or in the summer (again, as long as the cost isn't outrageous). No competition in the area, little overhead, potential to keep it reasonable in cost, etc

They tried that in Pflugerville and it didn't pan out.
Surveys said YES but no one showed up. They went out of business within 2 years.
