We are going to Austin for a weekend again!

Previous year we spent a wonderful Sunday at Pedernales Falls State Park nearby Austin.

Are there any other similar parks, with a river and hiking trails, for one-day hiking/resting, not far from Austin?

Within a similar distance as the Pedernales Park from Austin, not much farther, would be nice.

Would be thankful for any suggestions!

The trail is shorter but Hamiltons's Pool just SW of Austin is a must see. Hamilton's Pool Photo Gallery by cptinrn at pbase.com

Also the trails through the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Wilderness Park make for a great hike. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/par...wilderness.jpg

Of these State Parks near Austin... TPWD: Hill Country Travel Region

McKinney Falls is over just East of Austin and has some nice trails. TPWD: Hill Country Travel Region

As does Bastrop State Park and the List Pines area http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publicat...p4505_043c.pdf

I've heard very nice things about Mckinney Falls, which is about 30 minutes from Austin.

I second Hamilton Pool (just call first to verify it is open). Maybe Bastrop State park, if you want to see some tall pines. If you could do another 30-40 mins farther than Pedernales Falls, you could go to Enchanted Rock, which is a very nice visit.

McKinney Falls is a bit crowded for my taste, and I prefer a bit more hilly terrain. It's actually only 6 miles from downtown, and only about 1 mile from the airport.

If you don't mind crowds, you could always stay in town and go to the Barton Springs Pool then hike the Barton Creek Greenbelt from there.

Other in-town hikes would be St Edwards Park/Bull Creek and the Balcones Canyonlands Wildlife Refuge.

I'm surprised that nobody is talking about Zilker park. It's near Barton Creek road and has over 300-400 biking/hiking/jogging trails all over the city and some paths even go out of town.

Depends on your definition of "inexpensive" If you consider starting at $500000 inexpensive then you might get lucky and find something. If you consider $1mil inexpensive then your options open up. $2mil and you can have your pick with a few notable exceptions.
