Supposedly we will get the Skysports commercial-free coverage again this year, with the "exclusive" sponsorship of Mother's Polish.

https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/01/esp...ommercial-free

Sky is covering the winter testing in Barcelona on Feb 18-21 and Feb 26-March 1. Dunno if we will see that on ESPN or one of its variant cable/internet channels.

First race in Australia on March 17 and in Bahrain on March 31.

I suppose it means that the screamer will be back and I will have to turn the sound way down.

Last year's commercial-free coverage resulted in a 2% increase in viewership over the previous year. 547,722 average per broadcast vs. 538,114.

I really wish those guys would shut up once in a while. I swear, they must get paid by the word.

Apparently Jenson Button is being added to the commentary line-up - don't know if it is in place of Martin Brundle or in addition to Brundle or if he will be one of the roving pre-start grid reporters. Which is a feature I loathe - "let us see whom we can bother whilst they are trying to finish suiting up and getting in the car".

I liked Brundle and came to really like Paul Di Resta, once I could easily understand him (which, actually, when I got a soundbar for the TV that allowed moving the center channel up, became much better). I don't like David Croft ("Crofty") any more than my first impression of him.

Rumors are that Liberty Media is trying to sell F1. Since they are struggling to get anything done, it is understandable. Of Course, they deny it.

It started with an article on a business Web site:

Liberty Media could sell F1?

Red Bull denies wanting to buy:

Red Bull denies wanting to buy F1

Difficult to sell:

Liberty will struggle to sell F1 says Yermilin

The rumors persist, an article from today:

Rumors that F1 is for sale says Hembery

Maybe they should have retained the old-fart Bernie for a while. He could have trained the new guy with the fancy mustache with the twisted ends.

Watch Bernie come in and buy it for a song. Liberty Media always seemed like an odd match to me. Guess it might not work out.

Vettel and Ferrari were tops on Day 1 of testing, Day 2 was Kyvat (Toro Rosso), Raikonnen (Alfa Romeo), Riccardo (Renault), Vettel (Ferrari). Hamilton and Bottas were way down the list, but the Mercedes is running well and all the talking heads guess that they are running full fuel tests. Williams finally got a car out of the garage late in the afternoon and it made 20 or so laps and then retired. Pirelli is calling their tires C1-C5 (C5 being softest) and the top cars were on the softest tires and the Mercedes were running C2 and C3.

So I think everyone actually finished a few laps at this point, which is ahead of where we were last year, I think.

Only three weeks from this coming Sunday 'til the real first test of the year in Australia, I'm hoping HAAS can compete for fourth in the Constructor's title race this year. I hope it's a really good season this year, I'm not all that optimistic Liberty Media's taking the series in the right direction.

Austin Circuit of the Americas loses 25 million dollar state subsidy for 2018.

https://www.statesman.com/news/20190...-state-funding

Of course, COTA claims its just a misunderstanding. However, the rule seems to be as plain as day:

https://www.documentcloud.org/docume...TA-letter.html

This isn't good, because it has reminded taxpayers who have no interest in F1 that COTA is still receiving a state subsidy.
