YES!!!!!!!! Althugh fairly new fans, my daughter and I got hooked very quickly. It better be something really good if you think we're going to go anywhere on a race day! I like having a consistent person to root for - I like basketball, baseball, and football, but the members of the teams change so much it feels like a different team half the time.
When I was a boy, my folks went to Florida on vacation - taking me along sleeping in the back seat of a new '57 Chevy. One of the stops we made was to try and see any part of the new track they were building at Daytona Beach. While there, they showed me where they'd watched motorcycle-races and car-races right on the beach for many years prior.
We did find a peep-hole to look thru and watch the graders working in turn 4.
Funny how we never went back and although I lived in FL years later, never made it to Daytona.
Some of my earliest pictures are taken with me sitting in different race-cars at the local track.
I'm a fan - lo, these 5 million years later, I'm still behind the wheel on TV.
I can't get into it, sorry. I have one friend who enjoys it and will sort of watch an entire race. He claims he isn't watching just for the spectacular accident, but I'm skeptical. I've been at his house while a race is going on all afternoon and he is eventually dozing off or channel surfing.
Really the only sports I stay abreast of are college basketball and the NFL, only because of fantasy football though!
1. Drive 200 MPH
2. Slow down
3. Turn left
4. Repeat 500 times
You can probably guess that I'm not.
I have a better race for you. 500 mile race (250 laps) when you as a driver complete lap 250 you hang a u-turn and start driving in the other direction. Now that would be some thrilling racing. By the way I have a 1970's muscle car that I've owned since 1974. I am a fan of the technology in NASCAR but just can't get into the oval racing thing. I will watch them on occasion when they are on a road course.
I used to be a lot bigger fan than I am now , since NASCAR has done everything it can to alienate its original fans in search of the almighty dollar and mass appeal! drive for diversity, hollywood, newyork.

I used to be a fan when they raced real stock cars and the drivers weren't such predictable corporate spokesmen, it's gotten to where the hype and hoopla are more important than the racing, it's all about marketing.
IMO when they took points earned on a racetrack away from a driver for something he said after a race it ceased being a racing champonship.
If you want to see real racing I'd suggest watching MotoGP.

Either one's a lot more entertaining as a participant than as a spectator
