I have two cars, and they are advertising $5000 min trade in. What is the fine print in these deals, you hear them say any car...so can I bring my old van and my car and get ten grand towards another car???
Presumably they will make it up on the other end somewhere. They aren't going to give you a rock bottom new car price AND give you 5 grand for a $500 clunker.
And no you aren't going to get two $5000 minimum trades towards only one new car.
Why don't you just call them and ask them about the program? We can't guess what the gotchas are. There most certainly will be limitations. The dealer will not give $5K for a beat up Chevy Aveo without taking it out of your hide somewhere else.
One local dealer offers 5k for any clunker you bring in for trade. Note it's on cars that have the "DEALER ADVERTISED PRICE" not MSRP that the 5K is applied to. So when he adds wheelwell mouldings and pinstripes at an additional $1500.00 to MSRP and also take into account that most his new vehicles have at least a $3000.00 mfg. rebate, you are getting 0 for your trade. Another local dealer ( that is owned by a former NY Giant football player and sells cars that rhyme with Sunday ) offers 30% off the dealer posted price as well. Again he jacks up the price with mouldings, pin stripes and who knows what else and then offers it at a discount. Like others have said, it's usually some kind of scam. I would go to the dealer, don't mention any trade, negotiate your best deal and then ask can I still get 5K for my trade. I'll bet the answers is NO.

If they say they'll give you, "A Minimum of $5,000 Trade," that only means they're adding $4500 to the price of the vehicle they're selling you.
That min $5000 trade in is a way for them to get you into the dealership. When you step into the dealership, the one thing you care about is out the door price. If the out the door price doesn't benefit the dealership, you won't be buying anything or getting any deal.
These are just marketing ads that dealership run to generate traffic. No different than getting a letter from you local dealer saying that there is a shortage in the used car you own and they will pay you top dollars.. No such thing.
