Since electric cars don't have a precision machined engine and transmission why do they cost more?

They're carrying about 1,000lb of lithium batteries - that's the biggest factor in the EV premium.

The Nissan Leaf comes with two different size batteries that differ by 22 KWh, and are priced at a difference of $6600 or $300/KWh.
  • 40 KWh $31,620
  • 62 KWh $38,220
  • 22 KWh $6,600 or $300/KWh

The sum of those BEVs for first quarter 2021 are 204,141 (68% Teslas) which is more than the 152,046 F-150s sold in the same three months.

Curious as to why the numbered list above is in reverse order. Wow. I guess the Tesla Y is a hot item. The Tesla numbers are especially good when considering no federal tax credit.

and electric needs to go much much higher. when the gas taxes collected from well head to pump outlet goto zero, so does the highway funds and ashes to ashes, dust to dust applies to roads and bridges. there had better not be no free lunch, right now you are effectively fueling for free. if we tax electric for cars like gas, it will jump from 10 centskwh as is the nation average to about 50 cents. does that skew it?
