You may live with an old, not-very-reliable car if you would use it just to get to a train or bus station.

Are 3-year-old Corollas considered unreliable nowadays?
New York is a state as well as a city. She clearly said "NY State".

My mother in law leased a new Camry every 24 months for the final 20 years of her life and she loved it.

I thought she was a bit paranoid but she loved the smell of a new car and she was scared to death of being stranded by a broken car. Luckily, Toyota never let her down. During that time she enjoyed perfect reliability. The cars were always under warranty, the dealer did free maintenance while she sipped their free coffee and the salesmen loved her too. After all, selling a 2 year old Camry with under 8K miles that we literally driven by the "little old Lady" was an easy and profitable sale.

I thought she was just wasting money but she had unlimited funds.

I have leased the last two cars, one a Nissan Sentra and then Toyota Corolla.

Time to turn in for a third car. I've talked to a Toyota sales person and worked out what I wanted and he gave me the numbers, etc. The car should be good to go soon since my lease is almost finished.

Is it too late to change my mind on the car? It would be helpful if I could find a car that would need a smaller monthly payment. But worried about the reaction I would get from the Toyota salesman. I know I'm late thinking about this. Seems I do this sometimes.

When I turn in my current Toyota a 2020 Corolla, I will have to come up with $1000 and the monthly payment will be more than what I'm paying now.

I was told I could buy my 2020 Corolla, but don't think I can manage the payments.

Other things that concern me are I'm not young (almost 81) and live in a senior low income apartment. I realize there would be car maintenance expenses plus living in NY state probably snow tires.

I'm feeling a bit scared and would appreciate someone's help with this dilemma. Thank you for any help you might offer me.
You haven't signed anything yet, so talk to the salesperson about finding a car with a lower monthly payment or you can find online like here. Consider buying your current Corolla to avoid future lease payments and fees. Discuss maintenance costs with a mechanic and see if Uber might be an option if you don't use your car daily. Choose what works best for your budget and driving habits!
