I don't know if anyone correlated this list of 25 Airport O&D markets with population centers. They don't line up the same as Washington and Baltimore are certainly one air market, but two population centers.

Miami, San Fran, Orlando, Las Vegas, Salt Lake city, Honolulu are good examples of places that get more O&D air traffic than there population rank would suggest. But they all have healthy tourist traffic.

Philadelphia is probably the most populous metro area with the least amount of O&D traffic
