Please do NOT take this as defending or justifying his actions on the doomed flight, but it appears to me that any information about diuretics is rank speculation, with nothing backing them up. He had earlier told his girlfriend that "eventually everyone is going to know my name", which indicates to me that he was just waiting for the opportunity to present itself, and given that the Captain complained of not being able to go to the bathroom before taking off, it did. Based on what I know, or perhaps better put, what I think I know, he didn't target this particular flight, it just worked out how he needed it to.
