It's nice to see these guys make it, but I consider them to be second tier HOFers.

Opinions?

And no Dick Allen? That is my thought.

Was this a leak, or are their two separate announcements ?

I read that the ballots don't have to be turned in until 12/31/21, and that the results will be announced on 1/25/22 on the MLB network.

They were voted in by the Golden Days Era committee which judges players/managers/executives/etc from 1950-69.

Your age? Did you see them play? I saw Olivia and Kaat. Both should’ve been in years ago compared to some of the lesser “stars” who’ve been inducted the past two decades.

Yes, and if you look at Minoso's stats, they compare favorably to Oliva's. Minoso did play longer, but their stats averages are similar. Oliva had a better BA and more HR. Minoso's speed enabled him to rack up 95 triples and 70 sac hits.

Oliva averaged 32 doubles, Minoso 30
Oliva averaged 185 hits, Minoso 176
Oliva avaraged 92 RBI, Minoso 91
Oliva averaged 21 HR, Minoso 16
Minoso CS 38%, Oliva 39%
Minoso's average WAR 4.5, Oliva 4.2
Minoso's OPS was .848, Oliva's .830

Oliva was ROY in 1964; Minoso was 2nd in the voting in 1951.

Hodges' HR and RBI stats were better than those listed above, and his .846 OPS fit right in.

I had a "GO GO MINOSO" pennant for many years, but can't find it now.

Like I said - they kind of belong, but are second tier. Same as most players in the HOF.

I can see Kaat.. He was just shy of the 300 win mark and had a hell of a lengthy career. 25 years for a pitcher, even though he did transition to the 'pen.. Was he overpowering? No, but he was good and solid.

Some recognition for a guy who just shows up for work every day, does his job and is a good teammate. I can get behind that.

It used to be the toughest to get into, but it's getting weaker by the year, IMO.

Shoudl Harold Baines have gotten in? Do you think my buddy Joe Mauer will (or should) get in?? I don't think Mauer should get in, but with the lowered standards, I think he just might somewhere down the road.
I'd bet MLB keeps adding playoff teams, too.

They're going to be just like the NFL, NHL and NBA. Baseball playoffs used to be special ... now, 33% of teams make it.
