The Braves have tons of Division titles, & a good number of NL Pennants, but only 2 World Series wins...mostly due to the lack of shut down starters. Shut down Starters cost BIG money, and this corp ownership won't pay BIG money.

The fans from 20+ other cities would kill to have a team as consistently good as the Braves.

Its very nice & entertaining having a top flight team nearly every year, but Braves fans are ready for more. But with Strider out for the Season, Morton in the twilight of his career, and Sale being so fragile, I'm guessing this will be another close-but-no-cigar season. Fried was stellar last night, but we're not the same team w/o Strider.

That can change. Met fan here, but the Braves should fight hard to keep Fried. They can afford 1-2 top starters given team friendly deals on the offense. I cannot fathom why they do not go big on both Fried and one more top notch starter. In October, a shrewd top notch crafty starter will generally outperform Strider. Wheeler in recent years has been the gold standard of October. He usually goes deep, too. In the Braves defense, there is no Wheeler style FA on the horizon.

Default Injury

Ron Acuna torn his ACL today and will be out for the rest of the season. Details on the MLB site.

Excerpt:

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- Ronald Acuña Jr. will miss the rest of the 2024 season after an MRI on Sunday night revealed a complete tear of the ACL in his left knee. He is set to undergo surgery at a date to be determined, the Braves announced. ... Acuña created an immediate scare when he screamed and fell into the infield grass between second and third base. He took a big secondary lead and made a move toward third as catcher Joey Bart threw the ball back to pitcher Martin Pérez. Acuña's left knee seemed to buckle before he fell to the ground.

The video shows him dropping to the ground and writhing in pain.

Why so many such injuries in MLB? It seems to me while athletically gifted, perhaps today's stars do not play in a manner conducive to maximizing their longevity. As a Met fan, we saw the same thing with DeGrom on the short stint at max capacity/max performance level.

Braves just got Sean Murphy & Austin Riley back from injury, but Ronald Acuna's out for the season...again...2nd year in a row.

Ronald blew out his other knee this time, which I see as better than blowing out the same knee again.

So, the Braves must move on w/o Acuna again. Of course, we lost Spencer Strider (#2 Starter) for the rest of the season too.

We've been w/o Ozzie Albies for a stint too w/ a broken finger....geez...this Season isn't going too well.

It's amazing that the Braves record is still respectable, but they've been wobbly of late...not hitting at all.

I'm doubtful that this new post-injury-bug roster can beat the Phillies, or the Dodgers...w/o our #2 starter & #1 hitter.

I don't see ownership making any costly moves at this time. They'll take a wait-'n-see approach to guage if this line-up looks to be playoff bound.

The Braves farm system is weak, so no help there. We'd need to buy a player from a non-contending team at the July 30th trade deadline.

I can only dream of us acquiring Mike Trout...Brave's ownership stopped paying big $ to buy players years ago, after getting burned.

The next 2 months will be interesting to see how much resiliance this group has.
