I see the 80's Lakers completely smoking that Nuggets team or any of Lebron or Warriors teams. For that matter, 80's Lakers destroy the overrated 90's Bulls. How can you beat a big 3 of Magic, Worthy and Kareem?

I say that reluctantly as a Celtics fan. Celtics vs Lakers 80's rivalry is unparalled. Lasted the entire decade of the 80's, with C's or Lakers winning 8 out of 10 yrs in 80's. Bulls never had to beat a team like the Lakers or the C's.

Nuff said.

A, you're wrong.

B, Celtics were better.

The Celtics bested them many times in the 80s, then the Celtics were bested by the Detroit Pistons, only to be bested for good by the Chicago Bulls.

Chicago Bulls, best of all time.

Good night now.

The Jordan/Pippen Bulls and Curry/Durant Warriors were better.

Warriors “death lineup” of Curry, Klay, KD, Iguduola, & Draymond in 2017 & 2018, takes the cake.

That 2017 team went 15-0 in the playoffs. Cavs won 1 game in the finals, so they finished 16-1. You read that right, 16-1. Unbelievable. I kinda hated the NBA back then because everyone knew before the season even started the Warriors were going to win, & there wasn't a thing any team could do about it.

Warriors basically invented “positionless” basketball making it impossible to guard all 5 Warriors players on offense because they could hunt for mismatches. Then on defense most those players could switch & defend players 1-5. NBA has shifted in this direction since then because of the trend they started.

IMHO, Warriors are close but those Lakers of the 80's had a heck of a run. It pains me to say that the Celtics had a good run as well in the 80's. The Celts of the 80's, those Warriors teams in the mid 2010's, Bulls in the 90's are a close second to that Lakers team of the 80's in terms of dynasty. Again, I will get a headache but those Celtics in the 60's pretty much owned that decade. Now that's a dynasty.

I have to opine that Magic was a true "positionless player" considering he won NBA Finals Games as the starting PG and C.

That team was loaded, no argument at all. To play against modern teams they would need more shooting, but those core players would all still succeed today, IMO

Magic
Worthy
Kareem
Scott
Cooper

I love the 80s Celtics too, but I think they have too many bigs for today's game. Bird is a 4 today. McHale probably develops as a 5. Parish would clog up the paint too much with McHale, so you probably have to pick one or the other. DJ and Ainge still get burn today. People forget about Cornbread Maxwell, but I think he would succeed as an energy frontcourt player.

The Lakers lineup of Shaq, Kobe, Fisher, and Fox could beat that team. I honestly don't see anyone in history beating them between 2000 and 2002.

I think most people see the Warriors splashing the competition out of the gym, but 2016 showed us that "soft jumping shooting teams" have their limits. The Lakers have the length to do what the Cavs did to the Warriors in 2016 and more, plus they have an offensive juggernaut in Shaq that the Warriors would have no answer for. The Lakers could use their physicality to grind the Warriors down and get KD/Draymond into foul trouble.

I always ask which rules these hypothetical games are played under.

The Sacramento Kings could/did.

Funny, I don't remember the Kings ever beating the Lakers in the playoffs between 2000 and 2002. In fact, I don't remember anyone beating the Lakers in the playoffs during that time.
