Opening-night doubleheader is Turner's most-watched ever
On the heels of the most-watched NBA regular season in Turner Broadcasting's 26 years of airing NBA basketball, TNT tipped off the 2009-10 season with its most-watched doubleheader since Feb. 2, 1996 with nearly 3.7 million total viewers.
The previous record is held by a doubleheader featuring the Suns at Cavaliers and Bulls at Lakers. In addition, the doubleheader ranks as Turner's most-watched opening night in its 26 years of airing NBA basketball.
TNT, which has enjoyed back-to-back years of ratings increases for its regular season and NBA Playoffs, last night earned a 2.3 U.S. household rating for its exclusive doubleheader of the Boston Celtics at Cleveland Cavaliers and L.A. Clippers at L.A. Lakers.
In addition, TNT had double-digit growth over last year's doubleheader of Cavaliers/Celtics and Trail Blazers/Lakers in total viewers, up 43 percent (3,676,000 vs. 2,579,000 in 2008) and households, up 40 percent (2,685,000 vs. 1,914,000).
lakers look real thin to me, i know they have the same team but none of the back ups look as good this year, and fisher is a HUGE weak link. i say there is a no-peat coming again this year.
If Da Bulls can beat the Spurs and Celtics to open the season up, I think 82-0 is a pretty safe bet
They laid an egg against the Celtics...thinking the Bulls will be around 45-50 wins when it's all said and done this season, vying w/Washington & Atlanta for that 4-seed.
I think that now's a good time to bring up that JJ superstar scored 27 points on 8/14 shooting, grabbed 6 boards, dished out 5 dimes, and only had 1 turnover. Maybe Mr. EEEEEE will come back and back up my words about that, and even start his MVP chants early. Seriously, that was an excellent start by Mr. Redick, filling in for the injured Wince "Air Canada" Carter.
A few months ago, when the ridiculous Redick threads were still fresh, I mentioned those threads to my older brother. After the conversation, I realized I was wrong in one respect - it wasn't so much that JJ's jump shot was too slow for the NBA, but that JJ was being relegated to a spot-up shooting role. That's really the key here - Redick is by far more used to being a off-the-screen catch-and-shoot player than he is being a spot-up shooter, since that's what he essentially was at Duke. I didn't watch the game, but if I were to guess, I'd say that Orlando ran him off screens more during this game. Will it work all season? I doubt it, since not every team is as bad defensively as Toronto is. But a productive Redick is still a nice option to have, and it gives Orlando another pick-and-roll or screen-play option to throw into the mix.
BTW, this early season has been rather....peculiar. Fantasy-wise, anyway. I mean, who would've guessed that Channing Frye would be a total fantasy basketball stud? There's a reason why his smile's so big on his Yahoo player page - he's pointing at God and saying "Thank YOU for bringing me to play with Steve Nash".
Likewise, my man on the Knicks, Danilo Gallinari. He's essentially a rookie, since he was injured for almost all last season. And he's dumping in 23 points and a jaw-dropping 6 threes a game on a ridiculous 50% 3FG.
There are plenty more. Chris Kaman. Andray Blatche. Jermaine O'Neal, who before today looked like he fell into the Lazarus Pit, stat-wise. Seriously...my head's about to explode from all this.
