You could also consider boarding your very advanced pupil at LSMSA in Natchitoches. Louisiana School for Math, Science, and Arts.

Default Baton Rouge, LA - Gifted or magnet or charter like LSU Lab

Which is a better program in EBRP, gifted or magnet schools like BRCVPA or LSU lab ( charter) school? The gifted program is in public schools with average low scores, I am sure teachers are well qualified for gifted teaching. But the magnet schools have the highest score like BRCVPA and Forest heights and also the charter school like LSU lab. It is very difficult get into all the three programs. I looked up the test scores from -greatschools.org
I have been asking around a lot, most of them support magnet schools, I hope some of you can shed more light on this matter. Thank you.

Well I went to all Catholic Schools and I would say to stray away from the elementary ones, sure your kid gets a 'good' education and some great high school prep, but they neglect the arts and do not start advance placement classes until 6-8th grade. High Schools are different, St. Josephs, Catholic High, and BRMH are the best schools in the city. All three offer AP courses, a large variety of activities and extra classes.

St. Josephs is an all girls school, but is fantastic. All of the programs are top notch and the facilities are probably the second nicest in the city next to BRMH. Athletics and the arts receive equal funding. There is a uniform and the school is a closed campus. The school was also the first school here to incorporate laptops into the curriculum, now that it has been over a decade since, the school is the cities most technological.

Catholic High is also very good, educationally they have a fantastic curriculum and their religion classes are more aimed at introducing students to different faiths and being able to critically think. There is no uniform, but a dress code set to get kids to dress professionally (polo's, cakey pants, and Sperry's). The school also has a more professional aura, but it is an open campus. Athletics are certainly at the schools heart, but money is spent on both a massive technological influence and the arts. The facilities are not the best compared to BRMH and SJA, but they are good.

Baton Rouge Magnet High recently went under a massive renovation and is fantastic. The building is the most beautiful in the city. Academically it is on par with the Catholic Schools and has a fantastic arts program. The school has no uniform or dress code and is more laid back, but the school still is impressive. It has a diverse student population and fantastic computer sciences. The school is an open campus and offers AP classes. Additionally, BRMH is located next to CHS and SJA creating for fantastic interaction with the different schools and the surrounding area. BRMH is more of a creative school rather then athletic one.

The one thing I will complain about is that I had a ton of friends from BRMH that turned out to be total jerks when they came out. It was almost like they thought they were better then everyone. Granted there were a good number of kids from both CHS and SJA that turned out the same way. That is what will happen in these schools because they are the best and like to point out that they are. A certain aura of elitism certainly has a strong footing in all three schools.
