I've read that there are several hospitals and clinics in the city, but is health care overall considered generally good? Is there one hospital that has a much better reputation than others?

Unfortunately, I had to go on medical disability not long ago, although I'm still young(ish). I'm not asking much of a new city at this time, more of a pick-up-and-go kind of thing...as I posted before, warm, with a walkable neighborhood, and affordable are probably most important.

But health care factors in too...I'll probably have to get hooked up with a neurologist and a rheumatologist in addition to a primary care doctor. I guess if I have time, it might even be good to look into that before I move. I have the luck where I live now to be able to walk to the major hospital if I'm able...so it would be nice not to have a long drive to the doctor's.

Off the top of your (anyone's) head, any walkable neighborhoods kind of near medical care I should look into? (I'm not going to need to rush to the ER...just more chronic problems, unfortunately, that I'm trying to get under control). I've found places near Government Street (I'm not sure if those are all in one district or not, need to get a better idea), but that seems like a main drag?

Thanks very much!

The closest hospital is The Baton Rouge General on Florida Blvd. It's southern campus is popular (as well as Our Lady Of the Lake and The Women's Hospital) but I couldn't tell you how it compares.

I think that health care as a whole is excellent in Baton Rouge . My mother , sister , and sister in law are all cancer survivors and were treated here . My wife just recently underwent a pretty tricky orthopedic surgery and is recovering nicely . Cardiac care is top notch as well . There may be some specific situations that could be better handled elsewhere but it's not the norm .
