My family is relocating to ur area this summer. We have one in high school and one in middle school. Concerns r like everyone else's, schools, safety, property taxes... Husband expects a commute, he will work in north BR area, hopefully under an hr. Thanks in advance!

We are thinking of relocating to this area too. Our household would include me and my 30ish husband and our 12 year old (7th grade) son. We would want to be in a safe area, good public schools, with a small town/country feel, easy commute to BR, we would be looking to rent (hopefully a house---but would consider an apt or town home) for the first year or so. We want to make sure the city is a good fit for us as a family before being tied to a house. We are looking to pay between 800-1200 a month in rent. No more than 1500/month. I'm also interested to know if there are any general labor, industrial/plant/manufacturing jobs in the area. Any information would be helpful to us as well. Also we are thinking of the areas suggested by the original poster and also Gonzales.

Denham Springs is a nice area, small "city" just outside of Baton Rouge with decent schools. Zachary is known for the best schools but the area isn't as nice as Denham Springs. Look at Walker also which is the town just east of Denham Springs.

Hard to find rent in the suburbs, Denham Springs or Ascension parish will have the most outside of Baton Rouge.
