I have put my child in a new daycare about a month ago. I'm not sure if i'm over reacting or if this is anything to be worried about. My child came from a smaller daycare where there were 10-12 kids in a class and now the new one has 25 kids. I feel like the class room is chaotic and not a lot of structure.

My child seems like he has adapted ok, but looks lost at times. He is a little on the shy side and i'm not quite sure if this is a fit. I have also had a couple of teachers make a few remarks I wasn't pleased with.

I think my biggest issue is that the class feels like there is no structure, not organized and too many kids in one class. I don't feel that they welcome the toddlers and make it a warm environment. I feel that the class is too big and may be why I get the feeling that it's not as warm and loving as I would like for my child.

Any thoughts? is 25 kids in a toddler class too many? There are usually 2 teachers but it still seems like a lot?

I'm guessing your child is over 27 months because in Louisiana the child to worker ratio is 1:12 in that age range so unfortunately they are legal.

I personally wouldn't like my kid in a class that size. Seems like too much might happen with the teachers not being able to watch everyone. It's also prime time potty training age, what a mess that must be! When my daughter was that age and in daycare, I think they had 12 in a class with one full time teacher and a couple of part-timers splitting the day.

Bottom line, if you are not comfortable with the level of care they are providing, look into another center. It's okay to realize after the fact that maybe a center isn't the best fit with your child or your expectations. Next time interview the director, ask what their daily schedule is, class size, what curriculum they are using, the turnover of the teachers, turnover of the kids, stop in without an appointment, ask your friends and family if they have any experience with a facility, etc.
