Hello, I'm looking (forward) to removing the Albizia trees on my property in HPP and I don't need the whole quartz. Does anyone know where I can purchase a smaller quantity? Thx

Could you please clarify? What does “I don’t need the whole quartz” mean?

“Purchase a smaller quantity” of what?

We used to give Milestone away to people who needed smaller quantities for a couple of trees but we're down to the end of the quart so unfortunately cannot help you. At least one neighborhood association (I think it was Nanawale but don't quote me on that) used to sell it in "individual serving" type syringes to promote killing albizias on a budget because an expensive quart would otherwise be a lifetime supply. My best recommendation is to ask neighbors or neighborhood groups like you find on FB this question.

They are talking about this product: https://www.amazon.com/Milestone-Spe...f_=as_li_ss_tl

It's hugely concentrated, and very expensive to buy a quart, especially if you only need 3-9 cc's to take care of your problem. Like needing drops from a barrel but the stores only sell barrels. Milestone is kryptonite to albizias. A few drops will kill a tree that spans an acre. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDbzSVwH5-A

Thank you, Terracore. Once again you come through with good info.

Do you think this stuff would kill our Christmas berry trees that overrun everything here in Ka’u?

I'm not familiar with Christmas berry trees. Milestone is a selective herbicide that works on dicots and is "harmless" to most monocots. So it would depend on if the Christmas berry trees are monocots or dicots. Milestone was developed to spray on pasture land so it would kill the weeds and other invasives but leave the beneficial grasses alone. It doesn't work the same as "weed and feed" lawn treatments that basically kill weeds by overfertilizing them. It would be way too expensive to use a product like that on pasture land.

In my experience the trees that aren't affected by Milestone can be killed with Crossbow. It takes longer and the application is a little different, but it works. We use Crossbow on guava trees.

Thanks terracore for the offer. I don't mind buying the whole quartz tbh but i didn't think it needed more than a few drops like you said. Either way, the house we wanted to purchase fell through so the urgency is gone.

@terracore How do you apply Crossbow? Just spray it? I noticed that people also recommended Triclopyr, however, Crossbow contains some of it (14%). Was "pure" high concentration triclopyr not as effective in your case?

Update: this is what I found in the reviews regarding Crossbow application:

For vines, shrubs and ragweed this systemic killer works well when painted onto an open stem. Are vines invading your flower beds, and you don't want to spray herbicide everywhere, but also don't want to take forever to remove the vines by hand? No problem. Snip a few of the vines, get a cheap paint brush and a paper cup, pour some Crossbow in the cup and paint it onto the snipped ends. Within 1 week everything attached to those vines will be dead and stay that way. It's how I do most of my applications. This stuff also works very well on ivy, both ground level and on trees. I haven't seen my trees suffer, but I've been extremely careful to only paint chopped sections of the ivy vines.

Re: christmas berry tree - it is also called aroeira, if I'm not mistaken. The blooming trees have red hairy flowers.

What about bur? Does anyone know what works best against it, apart from pulling it from the ground?

Here's the scientific information about Christmas berry trees: Scientific name: Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi,Classification: Kingdom: Plantae: Phylum: Dicotyledonae. Family: Anacardiaceae

Also commonly called Brazilian Pepper. They don't flower, but in the winter they have small red berries. They are very invasive in our area of the BI near South Point.

I had never heard the term "aroeira", but I looked it up and, yes, it is the same tree.

When we have a Christmas berry tree cut down, we make some notches in the stump and pour Crossbow on it. The tree will not grow back, but that doesn't totally kill the roots and we've had new trees grow on the old roots. We also spray Crossbow on some of the really hard-to-kill weeds, but it's really toxic and I don't like to use it much.
