Is there a known "best" way how to get from Makuu Point to Hilo by bicycle?
So far I biked Makuu Drive to the Highway, at times there was no road shoulder to bike on... what do experienced cycle riders do? Thank you

Between the loose dogs, lack of bike lanes or even shoulders, and bad drivers, I wouldn't risk it. Maybe drive to the highway and bike from there, at least there are shoulders. Maybe the guy at Island Catchment will let you park your car there during business hours.

ya it is pretty unsafe on all the roads that you will be riding on. IE no shoulder and people will want to pass you.

The cancelation of Ironman last year was kind of nice in that it reduced the number of cyclists training around the Waikaloa to South Kona area. Every year when it gets to be close to Ironman, all of a sudden, there are cyclists everywhere (some training and others juat caught up in the excitement). Some of the cyclists will decide that the highway south of Kailua is a great place to ride - hint, it is not.
How we don't end up with a bunch of dead cyclists every year is a mystery.
