This 1927 architectural gem was previously a bank building and is now being renovated for condominiums....

Now let's move on to Vestavia....

1) A home on Shades Mountain over looking Shades Valley.

1) The view of Shades Valley from this home. The Village of Homewood is seen from Shades Mountain rather from Red Mountain in previous photos.

2) A 180 degree turn toward the Southeast...now overlooking primarily the City of Hoover with Double Oak Mountain in the far background about 6 miles away. This photo appears to be unpopulated forest but approximately 70,000 people live in the area in the photo...when the neighborhoods were developed, tree-cutting was very carefully done. There is virtually no undeveloped land in this photo....its all Birmingham suburbia and it now extends well over Double Oak Mountain in the background. The other side of Double Oak Mountain is Birmingham's 'frontier' now....

3) The village of Vestavia from my car. Notice no Billboards or Outdoor Advertising in Homewood, Vestavia or Mountain Brook. Not a billboard to be seen....

I passed through Birmingham going to Amory, MS. Those pics are great, it looks beautiful there. Whats it like to live there? Not in Birmingham itself but the suburbs?

The suburbs are excellent. Very good public schools that prepare children for college, good local governments with control over police, fire and public services and extremely low crime....
