Oh, and speaking of San Francisco, we know that landing announced its HQ relocation to Birmingham just last year...

the only city in the top 10 with less than 100 milion in investment. when you are so close to zero in Q1, it doesn’t take much to have a huge increase in Q2.

but go off.

It's a good start and a flame that certainly needs to be nurtured so it can gain momentum. It's just one of the ways the city shows that it isn't a derelict post-steel town.

just pointing out the statistical methodology. a town with 100 people that sees two families move to it could be called the fastest growing place in the state. but nobody would really care.

Foley, Athens, and Calera were the fastest growing AL cities 2020-2021 too. Not trying to be no fun at parties ha but your headline reads as if Apple and Google were relo-ing to Bham. The truth of the matter is when discussing startups, Birmingham isn't in the conversation. Its GOOD to be mentioned don't get me wrong! But I don't think San Francisco needs to be worried that Birmingham will outshine it any time soon.

definitely sounded like a Bham Now headline haha. agree any sort of forward momentum is positive, but the numbers from the article itself tell the story:

SF: $9.7 billion in the second quarter
Birmingham: $47 million in the second quarter... basically half a percent of SF's number.

To extrapolate that a little further, that's about $2,100 per capita in SF metro and about $47 per capita in Bham..

Assuming SF metro is about 4.6M and Bham is about 1.15M in population.
