that's a lot of house for $200,000. i doubt you will find new construction in the birmingham area that is at that price point that is not in an area that is booming (like Calera).

you could take a look at McCalla. it's a bit west of town, but the traffic isn't as bad on I-459 as it is on I-65... and McCalla is only 10-15 minutes away from the heart of Hoover with all the shopping, eating, etc. that you could want. McCalla is a growing area as well, though not to the extent of Calera.

you could also try the northeastern suburbs of birmingham. out past trussville... like Clay, Springville, maybe Ashville, Pell City... some of those areas are pretty far out, but they are probably a little cheaper than Calera.
