Im going to Atlanta in August, I am going to rent a car and take a day trip to Birmingham to explore around. I like to get off interstates and see towns and cities like the locals do.

Is there anywhere in the city I should avoid?

Is there anywhere in the city that is a must see and do?

Take a look on this thread:

One thing to consider. Lots of people vacate Birmingham for the beach or the lake during July and August, as they do in Atlanta. It means you're much more likely to get a table at a great restaurant, but if nightclubs don't feel as crowded, then you'll know why.

I take it I-20 will be in your destination? Exit 132 Oporto Madrid exit GO South. North will get the hair on the back of your neck to stand up. Take OP-M to Montevallo rd hang a right and follow that into Mountain Brook's Crestline village. Stop in Reality South office tell em just sold your home and you are sitting on $700K as a down payment, and you will get the VIP tour of the city. Even buy you lunch. LOL
No, for real

Neither Birmingham Airport nor DOT maintained roadways are closed to the public. Aside from 280 during rush hour:>)
