Between St. Luke's and Saint Alphonsus, which one of these hospitals do you prefer and why? I know it depends on many circumstances, like trauma, you're more than likely going to Saint Al's trauma.
St. Luke's (both Boise and Meridian) are great for maternity and from what I've heard, better than St. Al's in that regard. My daughter was born at St. Luke's Meridian and I can't compliment the staff and facilities there highly enough!
I've never heard anything about a medical school happening anywhere in Idaho. Idaho is currently in a program where state residents are guaranteed a certain number of slots at the University of Washington and the University of Utah. I'm guessing this is way cheaper than starting and funding a medical school and given current budget constraints, it's hard to see momentum building for a medical school any time soon.
I worked at St. Luke's for nine years before entering a career in real estate (worked in volunteer management and development). I cannot say enough about the amazing work that the folks do at St. Luke's! This is a hospital that is incredibly patient-focused. It is truly local and governed by a local board. They have expanded over the years from their downtown campus to Meridian, Twin Falls and other rural areas but they are not part of any sort of national network. I like that. Their maternity care is excellent but so is their cancer care (Mountain States Tumor Institute--MSTI), heart center, Children's Hospital (Idaho's only children's hospital is a "hospital within a hospital" at St. Luke's). While I also would say that St. Al's is a quality institution, and in the case of trauma they would be our first choice, overall my family chooses St. Luke's.

Does anyone forsee a medical school in Boise?
Idaho State University has a location in Meridian and will begin the states first nursing doctoral program soon. I am not sure if this location is classified "medical school", but they do have medical labs, of course nursing programs, etc.

No - it wouldn't be classified as a medical school. Idaho couldn't support it.
