A given tribe could not buy and win the case anywhere, just where they had resided in the past. The example of OK and FL given in post #9 would be for the Seminoles, where were forced to move from FL to OK in the 1830's IIRC.

So I looked it up again and this is what I was referring to:

Quote:
In Oklahoma, the Kialegee Tribal Town went so far as to propose a casino half a continent away, on the coast of Georgia, on land that it said it once occupied, raising the specter of tribes going across state lines to pursue new gambling ventures.

Tribes are seeking to cash in on a loosening of the rules, announced in June 2011, when the Bureau of Indian Affairs junked a Bush-era requirement that a casino had to be within easy driving distance from a tribe’s reservation.

So maybe it never got past proposal stage (I didn't research further). But the point is still there. Tribes are looking beyond the traditionally legal boundaries.

Tnx. Very interesting. Will be interesting to see if the BIA policy change gets reversed once again. Politics at play both ways....

A casino in Mountain Home
I thought these were limited to only Indian reservations?
Not needed.

It's been a long time since this was first brought up, so I don't remember all the details.
But as I recall, an indegenous Idaho tribe plans to purchase some land outside Mtn. Home that is not connected in any way to their reservation land.

Once purchased, the legal question is: does this new property become a part of reservation ground or not?
If the land isn't reservation property, a casino can't be built on it. If it is a part, then the tribe can build anything it wants on the land.

History says the white man arbitrarily declared land to be reservations, and would sometimes give that land to the Indians and then take it back and give them other land that shared no boundaries with the first.

So the legal point can be argued both ways. The casino wasn't the point of the argument; the land where the casino was to be built on was.

Of course every State has somewhat different regulations. Washington and Oregon casinos with slots are on Native American land, though there may some exceptions to this. When I lived briefly in the Chicago area some 17 years ago all the casinos were tied into riverboats. Washington allows casinos that don’t allow slots on non tribal land. Of course Oregon has limited gaming machines in restaurants and bars.

As far as I know, Mountain Home is the largest city and county seat of Elmore County, Idaho, USA. The population was 15,979 as of the 2020 census. Mountain Home is the principal city of the urban statistical area of Mountain Home, Idaho, which includes Elmore County. About the casinos, I prefer to play at online casinos more. That way, you can play poker and not have to leave the house. What do you think about that?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. At some locations, the gasoline is much cheaper as well. With all theI-84 and truck traffic, that might be a huge factor in their favor.

I have found gas prices very similar on native land. And why not? They just want to be competitive.
