I read all 3 books (fortunately for free). It's basically porno trash for the BDSM-curious hausfrau. I kind of liked it for what it is, but great fiction this is not.
The writing is spotty, the characters are ridiculously 2 dimensional. It's fantasy for every woman who dreams of meeting an uber-rich, handsome, but terribly emotionally flawed man who likes to get his serious S&M kink on. Certain phrases appear over and over and over and over, along with the character's actions. It gets predictable after awhile.
It's entertaining if you think of it as a longer and smuttier version of a Harlequin romance. But if you're wanting something intelligent...well...this series is not it! You've been warned.
I agree. It's not 'Pulitzer Prize' winning material by any means. But I enjoy these books for what they are. Sometimes I need something simply entertaining without having to think too much. Pure escapism
I thought it was okay...2.5 stars! I read it in just a few days, but there were a few points I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. There was TOO much sex...and I was sick of hearing about her inner goddess.

Just ran across this article regarding Fifty Shades. The Brevard County Public Library system in east central Florida has pulled copies of the books from its shelves after officials decided they were not suitable for public circulation. At some U.S. libraries there are 1,000 holds on this book. I guess this guy believes the women in Brevard aren't mature enough to make up their own minds.
On edit: I just checked my library. They ordered 53 copies and have 605 holds on the book.
Clip:
“We view this as pornographic material,” Don Walker, a spokesman for the Brevard County government, said in an interview on Friday. “I have not read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ but I’ve read reviews of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ From what I understand, it’s a lot about male dominance and female submissiveness.”
Other books of an erotic nature, including “The Complete Kama Sutra,” “Tropic of Cancer,” “Lolita” and “Lady Chatterley’s Lover,” were available at branches of the Brevard County library, but Mr. Walker said that was because they had already “become part of the societal mainstream.” Florida Library Removes 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' Erotic Trilogy, From Shelves - NYTimes.com
