Any book by Shawn Tan!

My fave is still The Lost Thing, and it always will be. The short animated film version is its equal.

I just gifted my 10 year old granddaughter a Kindle Paper White as she loves to read. What Kindle books appropriate for that age can you recommend? Also what is a good source for cheap or free Kindle books of the same??

What sort of books does she like? What is she interested in? Somewhere between 10 and 12, my kids loved The Giver quartet by Lois Lowry. My son was closer to 12 I believe and my daughter was younger when she started them.

Great story, told in rhyme, about a curious girl who is an aspiring scientist!

Have you seen a kid's book that got you excited and wanted your own copy? What are your fave kids' books?

I was quite empty by Scaredy Kate too!

Jade, I have Ada on my shopping list. Just put her there yesterday. Thank you for the boost. Another kid's book that I love is "It's a book". It does not do emails or electronic searches or play games or music with you - "It's a book". Another great Christmas present.

Just picked up Garfield Fat Cat 3-pack #24..

Apparently it's part of a running series of compilations. They bundle three previous Garfield books in to a thicker collection. The book mentioned the collected strips are in color now, so I guess some of these were originally weekday, black & white strips. Looks like most of these are from 4-5 years ago. Nice art, & still funny after all these decades..

Extinct Animals of the Southern Continents (Behm & Balouet)

A brief, but cool hardcover kid's book.. collecting images of extinct African & Australian animals. Some very good artwork, accompanied by brief synopses. Nice book if you have a kid in to exotic animals, or an adult who likes natural history.
