Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan
Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb
The Tawney Man Trilogy by Robin Hobb
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series by Tad Williams
So far only two actors have been announced, Sean Bean is to play Eddard, and Peter Dinklage is to play Tryion.

Try Tad Williams's Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series. Start with The Dragonbone Chair and go from there. It was the book that convinced Martin Fantasy isn't dead and is still worth writing.

Actually, Tyrion has been cast, and he's absolutely perfect:
I've been meaning to read this since one of my friends began insisting on it a few summers ago. I think the only thing keeping me back is that I'm slightly intimidated by the size/thickness of the novels. Apparently the story telling, plot and characters are all superb. I really should just say "to hell with it" and just dive right into them, shouldn't I?

To be honest I wish they were longer Once you start reading and you get near the end of each book, you think to yourself "Damn its almost over".
I haven't read the series you are talking about here but am excited by the recommendation. I used to read tons of scifi/fantasy but for years have been reading mysteries.
Williams Memory Sorrow and Thorn is really excellent, I'm almost jealous of those who still have it to look foward to.

oh god, please no to Brangelina! and I'm not personally a fan of Nikki Reed (Dany is too good a character for her!). Nikki could be casted as Tyrion's hooker friend though (I forget her name)
I think Djimon Hounsou would be cool as Drogo. he strikes me as being the strong, silent type. for Joffrey, I liked the blond kid who played the bully in "The Butterfly Effect" (Cameron Bright, who was also the kid in that creepy "Birth" movie). of course, he may be a bit too old to play that part now. Alan Dale would be AWESOME for Tywin (the character is a lot like Widmore)
blah, it's too hard to cast for these movies! I just hope they go w/ good actors, preferably some unknowns and hopefully not all British/Australians (it would be nice to see some Americans in a major fantasy production, especially since GRRM is American)
