A detour through the Smokies may be just whatt mommy and daddy need, with the big Disney payoff at the end for the kids! I'll look into it, thanks.

I forgot about the Smokies. I actually spent a night there as part of my honeymoon. Lots of things for kids to do on the strip if you go in the summer, like the Ripleys Believe it or Not Museum.

there is we really enjoyed it

there's also dolly partons place which is a big amusment park, ripleys and other things, the scenery is beautiful, then we nipped over to the other side called cherokee where it was educational, then we got back on 81 avioding tolls, avioding traffic and seeing beautiful country

places like gatlinburg, pidgeon forge are beautiful, the people are really really friendly

if you ask directions then be prepared for them to say things like go straight and turn at the number 6 light as all their lights at junctions are numbered

the smoky mountains are beautiful and peaceful , my kids were always on the lookout for bears

we got a few looks because we had mass plates (not anymore)

Another place you can stop at (although maybe it's too close to Boston for a stop?) is Lancaster PA, Amish Country. You can take the kids on a hayride or horseback riding. Also nearby there's the Hershey Amusement Park for the kids.
