Hello, Boston-area people.

I seek your recommendations on the best sports doctors and orthopedic surgeons in the Boston area. I especially want to hear from women who've had effective PT and problem-free bilateral TKR with said doctors.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Not a woman, but I've had three surgeries (ACL/MCL/PCL allograft plus 2 minor procedures to remove screws and clean up scar tissue) with Dr. Mark Steiner and he is amazing at knees. Chief of Sports Medicine at New England Baptist, and team doc for Harvard athletics. Had my first surgery in 2004 and I'm still going strong. The man is a maestro.

The sports medicine knee/shoulder guys are different from the knee/hip replacement guys. Steiner doesn't do knee replacements. You want somebody who does knee replacements every day, not somebody who does ACL grafts every day. It's like needing a root canal and someone says they have a great orthodontist. Not particularly useful information.

Any of the teaching hospitals have a knee/hip replacement team that does it every day. Massachusetts General Hospital is a top-10 hospital in the world and top-10 in Orthopedics. Personally, I'd start there. New England Baptist is a really good orthopedic hospital and in the top-50 nationally in that specialty. Ditto Brigham and Women's. You can't go wrong at any of them.

The knee/hip replacement guys at MGH are here:
