Since that didn't happen and the thing was constructed, how about we throw up some warning signs letting people know of the risks and call it a day? Instead, we have a brand new (expensive) piece of unusable equipment that will probably sit there with barriers around it until the city decides to have it removed.
My cynicism got the best of me. Apparently the barricades are only to prevent overnight use and will be removed during the day (I walked by at around 7am and they were still in place). I'm happy to be wrong on this one, though the barriers seem like overkill.
