Surprising. And NYC is the safest city to drive in.

Maybe because there's so much traffic that cars are barely moving ?

^this. If you drive in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc... you have space to drive 0-70+ MPH.

In New York or Boston, where the hell can you flow with traffic at/above 70mph? lol. Accidents are usually fender benders or occurring at/below 30mph. Sure there are fatal accidents, but not nearly at the rates as elsewhere.

What shocks me is that NJ is the third safest state to drive in even though regular highway cruising speed is 80-90mph.. we are constantly running PA/NY/CT/MA/MD plates off the roads, and yet we are #3? I don't get that one lol. Just this morning my NJT bus was travelling 82 mph and beeped a NY plate off the left lane who was going about 75.

What a joke. Our insurance rates would vehemently disagree with this ridiculous hypothesis.

Seems like kind of silly data to even report on. Any place can be dangerous to drive depending on how you're driving or who you happen to be driving near at the time.

As a nation, we must have terrible drivers.

Extreme congestion and slow moving traffic + quick EMS response and short trip to hospital = low fatalities.

Not exactly rocket science.

One thing I've noticed is that driving is more hazardous these days with all these delivery trucks like Amazon, UPS & FedEx clogging every big and small street causing constant congestion and vision blockage. Even late in the evening Amazon trucks and others are often speeding through my neighborhood.

Bingo. Slow traffic = less injuries. Good hospitals = less fatalities.

I mean, don't most cities have hospitals nearby? Just because someone doesn't die in a car accident doesn't mean they're all good either.

There are plenty of drunk driving accidents happening in the greater boston area. They might not be happening in a Boston zip code but they happen several times a week.

Also here you go:

Sorry but Boston doesn't need to 'pat itself on the back' for this.
