Living in Oklahoma tired getting hit by tornados, earthquakes, etc. will be retiring soon and am looking to relocate to the Whitefish area need to get some input. I know the housing is more expensive but not a problem. I will be moving with my horses and other animals ( dogs, cats). Would like to have pros and cons of the area. I am single which is not a problem as far as running my ranch in Oklahoma and currently living in the country so used to isolation so to speak don't like big cities. What would be the drawbacks of living in the flathead area? What should I be careful of? Any insight would be appreciated.

You probably will get more responses posting in the Montana rather than Bozeman forum. Whitefish is in a different part of Montana than Bozeman.

Welcome to the C-D forum. Just click on the Montana forum link on top of this page (to get out of the Bozeman forum), and do a search on Whitefish and/or Flathead Valley. You'll find a wealth of information, and hopefully you'll find the research entertaining. Most of us do!

A flathead county in Montana, it is an amazing place! And also romantic for the ones who see it in the way. I would love visiting it.

Just a polite reminder to get Vet Certificates for ALL the domestic animals you will be bringing into Montana.

Default If you have a good paying job then it would be easy.

Bozeman, Montana is very expensive as of 2017. We sold a condo there for $300,000 in May of 2017. The median price for a condo is $300,000 to $350,000 and the median price for a house is $350,000 to $400,000. Most of the low end condos that are in the $250,000 range sold in less than a week and many of them were to out of state people who paid cash. Bozeman, Montana is in Gallatin County and as of 2017 is the most expensive county in Montana to live in. If you do not already own a home in Bozeman good luck on finding something to buy. And if you are thinking about renting expect to pay $1500 to $1900 a month for a 3 bedroom, if you can even find an available rental that cheap. If you have a good paying job then it would be easy. The cost of living is higher in Bozeman, Montana than Oklahoma.
