The giant canister of bear spray is larger.

It is NOT the bear spray or the bears that have changed since 2009.

It is the people in the woods that have changed. Lots more clueless urban refugees that buy bear spray as a "status" symbol.

Totally ignoring the fact that they might have to deploy it at some point in time.

With a bear charging you, it is difficult to keep your composure and use the bear spray effectively.

Bear spray and guns have a lot in common. Just because you have one or the other, even maybe both doesn't mean much unless you know how to use them.

That's the bottom line. Having either item or both in possession and available is one thing but placement and application is another.

Not sure why you have to be snippy about it. It's a good article, but it could be that the laws have changed. It could be that the bear demographics have shifted (which they have, with those fat larvae the bears depend on at high altitude, whatever they are, becoming scarce). And, like it was pointed out above, that the wilderness itself has changed, with humans moving into bear habitats who have never considered the possibility of having to defend themselves against animals.

Make sure that there is enough aerosol in that large canister of bear spray.

The US government did think it was a good, BACKUP weapon. Hmm, I will have to think about the concept of a backup weapon in a grizzly encounter,....yeah, not gonna happen....Griz will win that one, before the backup weapon comes out!!

YOUR government at work.....yeah, ditch the 44 magnum.

Get a REAL gun instead.....and the US government does have some great options.
Give us a break. The Federal government is the most useless organization in the country. Real world statistics prove them wrong time and time again. I’ll take the .44 mag over their half baked suggestions anyday.

305 grain hard cast core bullet. I prefer a revolver because it’s always on my body. It’s not slung over my shoulder or back at camp in the tent or leaned up against a tree.

Cast iron ammo from Buffalo Bore. This brand has much more recoil than its counterpart from other brands.
