I dont know how we can legitimately limit it. I mean, we could conceivably pass legislation to limit people from buying property who are not residents... but all that really accomplishes is a stagnation of our economy, in a state that is far from independently sufficient.

These people in Florida are the ones who are trying to prohibit hunting and fishing in remote areas of Florida by Okechobee, not to mention successfully killing the sugar cane industry a few months ago and ultimately destroying the town of Clewiston, FL so they can flood half of south florida to make the wackos "feel" good. If that's what they ended up doing down there, just imagine what they'd want to do in Montana if they had their way.

Greetings to all...I am a Wal-Mart employee in Arkansas, (born and raised in Wisconsin) and I want to transfer to the store in Bozeman,Montana this spring/2009. What can anyone tell me about the pace of life in Bozeman? I am a born-again Christian man (46) who wants to learn how to hunt and fish and continue my love of backpacking. I will not have a vehicle after relocating to the north-west, so if I move to Bozeman for instance, "How far will I have to walk to find a nice stream to fish in, or some hunting grounds to hunt on, or some cool trails in the mountains to hike on"??

Wal-Mart is located on 7th Ave and roughly in the center of town. I would not move here without a vehicle. There is a bus service called Streamline, which is currently free to ride on. The bus routes will take you throughout town. So that is an option, depending on your work schedule. I know for a fact that the bus stops at Wal-Mart.
For hunting and fishing, you will need a vehicle. It might be hard to drag an elk/deer 35 miles home. There are some great fishing spots around here but most will take a vehicle to get to. Where are the good spots? I'll never tell
The winters are going to be a little different from Arkansas, so be ready for that!
The employment situation right now is very tough, so think things through. Please don't watch a movie about Montana and be swept away by its beauty, only to make a quick decision and find that living here requires sacrifice.

You NEED a vehicle to do almost everything in Montana and it needs to be very dependable. If you work at Walmart and live within reasonable walking distance you may just survive. Your world would be very small without a vehicle.
You can't hike to hunting or fishing...it is too far. Montana is a huge state.
Cost of living will probably be more than you expect: Rent can be especially high.
But...no sales tax!!!
