What are some business ideas to start in a small town of around 5000 people. Its a rural type town kinda close to alittle bigger cities, and it has a river running through, the snoqualmie river.
What would you like that isn't there? What do others wish your town had that it lacks? Knowing the market and what is wanted and needed is a good starting point.
Ask other residents what they would want. See what the chamber of commerce has for input. Then work forward from there to look at what your interests are or areas you know.
Depends on the average income levels in the town. If a poor area, then a discount store with a little of everything - sort of general store can work. But that might not do well if it was an upscale area.
Other than that, common best selling things not sold locally. Things people do not want to drive to the next town to get and might just need a few items. Maybe a little each of... Office supplies, kitchen / household things, automotive, food items, garden, hardware, electrical, pet, personal care, clothes, paint, crafts, toys, sewing, etc.
Don't carry anything sold elsewhere locally. And don't carry any high price items like computer printer cartridges (need to stock too many different types and cost too much for just a few sales).
If there is recreation nearby, then water stuff, camping stuff, maybe things for teenagers like skate board stuff, etc. Young teenagers can't drive, you would have a captive market!
