Need to move your RV? Just take a fresh baked batch of cookies down to your nearest RV camping or repair maintenance shop. You will have a herd of very bored available drivers and tow rigs clamoring for the chance to help you. Do a bit of research that they are careful, have an adequate tow rig, and are insured. Pay for their fuel and fix them a home-cooked meal for their time. (Be careful, like feeding a stray dog... you may have a new friend for life).

Or... use a hot-shotter i.e. u-ship.com type driver / commercial carrier brokerage.

It's not so expensive when you calculate the investment for a truck, licensing, road tax, fuel, insurance, bonding.... (and feeding the drivers).

I have sent several loads cross country for cheaper than I could drive it and pay for fuel (some Drivers want to get back home, and prefer any load to NOTHING!)

She talked about moving it for a couple weeks / or a month for vacations during summer. Really, I do not think any of the above is feasible for what she envisions.

I live 30 miles from RV shops, and no, I'm next to positive a batch of cookies would not get them to use a bunch of expensive fuel, drive 30 miles to my house, drive 60 miles to the campground and 90 back to their shop. And then come and get me in a month. Not even when I was 20. Any guy that would, I would not consider safe, to me or a liability standpoint.

OK fine... I'm just a professional CDL driver (and farmer) who sees (and does) this for others all the time for the past 50 yrs, as did my dad and grandfathers. We have all driven cross country (for free) to help friends, I've done it several times (2 weeks ago included). I carry extra insurance ($3m commercial policy), just for such cases.

But "Whadda I know?"

Good luck with solutions, I gave you 2, there are hundreds. But, "Whadda I know?"

Dealers do this all the time, I just had a tenant who had their 40' 5r tugged to a summer vacation location. They have owned it (RV) for over 12 yrs and never owned or desired to own a tow vehicle. (Which, As a professional driver who has scraped a lot of RV drivers and families, and the others they hit... off the pavement, I prefer their plan (not towing their own rig; if seldom done, or undesiring, or incapable of doing so). Many RV drivers are incapable, or have inadequate equipment and pose a risk to themselves and all others on the road.

You do yours, and be prepared to pay, either way.
Responsibility comes with the territory, and at a cost.

I'm sure you do. Are there 10s of thousands out their that do? That are in the OPs area? She doesn't want to "move" her vehicle across country.

She wants someone to drive it to and from campsites every few weeks during a season.

Is she comfortable (should she be?) meeting some rando guy up in the middle of nowhere? How does she guarantee the guy shows up in 2 weeks to take her back home? What if he decides it wasn't worth the money (let alone cookies)? Now she is stuck in a campsite, who might have her towed at her expense to get out for other reservations.

I'm sure you know a lot, but I'm super surprised you would think this is a good idea.

Odds are someone AT THE CAMPGROUND (or in the closest town) will do the moves.
Someone who ALSO has a rig knows the how to.

How much would charge to move a trailer a 100 miles and back at a later date? People at the campgrounds come and go... it's vacation.

If we are at a campground (common) and someone asks me to take their rig home..... I am going to fall over laughing.

The whole family has various RVs, and camp like 10 times a year, and no one does this, not us, none of the people at the camps....

The closest, is one of the camps will rent you a 5th wheel, that they have onsite. They will drive it the < 1 mile to you site and take it when you are done. But it is theirs, and it is on site.

No one is hanging out on the ready to drive your rig a couple hundred miles back to your property. Remember, they then need a way to get back home after they tow you home.

Stealth: If you are volunteering to take the OP back and forth all summer that is awesome of you! Drop her a line.

Of course, Devil's advocate here says; what if, while towing, the tires blow on the towed RV or an axle locks up? Ultimately then, it'd need be put up on a carrier & NOW significant cost, not mention the loss of $ the original tower was given. Just a thought, dunno if relevant but seems to me to be an issue to consider.

Professionals will know your vehicle condition and you will be refused (and charged) if it is unsafe to move.

Tires over 7 yrs old?
lights,
Brakes,
hitch,

It will be much cheaper to fix this stuff first, before towing

You can expect to pay anywhere from $1.00 to over $5.00 per mile to transport your travel trailer. Many factors can influence how much you will pay, including the size and working condition of your trailer, as well as the distance it needs to move.
