Yeah, but there's ugly people (attitude wise) in every nationality.
As for Americans, the ones that come to Toronto are OK except some of the guys that come up for caribana, they act like they never seen women before. Now Americans in montreal in my experience, a lot do exhibit the ugly American stereotype. The majority are drunk college kids anyways.
I was wondering if the "ugly American" phenomena is a greater problem in Quebec, since the stereotypical "ugly American" insists on speaking in English everywhere.
In Quebec, the problem with young Americans is usually not language-related, it's more about being able to hold your liquor and behave well when intoxicated.
Other than that, the vast majority of Americans I see travelling in Quebec are more clueless/prudent when it comes to language and certainly don't have chips on their shoulders. They are no worse than Canadians who don't speak French, who are more likely to have that chip up there in Quebec from what I have observed.
Co-worker was stopped on the street by people in a car with NY plates with skis in a roof rack. They asked for directions to the ski hills..
It was July in Peterboro...
He told them to keep heading north until they saw snow..

I've been to the UK, and the Ugly American thing is, I think, just a stereotype. The most of an Ugly American you will see are college age kids acting stupid, talking too loud, and walking around in drunken stupor. I've seen plenty of British university kids do that when I was there anyway . In my experience, it's the British tourists that would be more of an embarrassment than the American ones. But, then again, Europe is so close by that any idiot in Britain can buy a plane ticket to Europe. The same probably holds true for Americans with travel to Canada and Mexico. I do not see "Ugly Americans" when I'm in Puerto Rico, and Puerto Rico is to the US like Quebec is to Canada so, yeah.
I saw ugly and beautiful people in Canada, i don't walk around asking people what country they are from so idk if they were American or not. of course i could be the one to stereotype but i'm not 15 anymore

No, no. The "Ugly American" stereotype is an American that wears a Hawaiian shirt anywhere they go, with a huge camera around their neck, complete with a knapsack with cooking utensils hanging from the bottom. Their attitude consists of being loud, boisterous, rude, and demanding. That's what an Ugly American is, has nothing to do with their facial appearance
Lol i know, if i go out of the country on vacation i'm going to wear that exact wardrobe and i'm going to run around somewhere like champs elysees yelling "Where is the closest McDonalds!"
Well, I don't talk to American tourists too often, but those I've met have been nice and if they were clueless about something in Canada I just found it to be a good topic to start a conversation from and get to know them. I only met one guy who could be an "Ugly American", a retired army guy from Washington State I met on a train to Vancouver. He was crotchety and said all kinds of insensitive things without really knowing they were insensitive, and was of a "type" more commonly found in the US then in Canada, but I didn't hold it against him or anything, he was mostly just a crotchety old man and we've got that too.
