I've been to Canada a few times. Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary all have a very different vibe from their US counterparts.
I find the people in general not that friendly, not rude but a little boring and lack charisma. Polite but not at all charming. Those in Vancouver need to get off their high horse & get a reality check!
The news reporting is so boring. I have never heard such monotonous news anchors in my entire life!
I know Canadians feel smug that their country is not hit with problems that other countries deal with, yes I think it is far safer than most other parts of the world, but I'm just saying I dont find the country particularly 'charming'
(Also I have even been to the Canada Maritimes and found it an extremely backwards and close-minded absolutely boring place)

I know right! No flashy cable news on foreign wars, terrorism, mass shootings, or leaders who act like school yard bullies to report on. Just your average everyday news for a small country of 36 million.

Canada news reporting is boring because nothing really happens, good or bad. They have to resort to reporting everything that happen in a neighouring country as domestic news. In the morning when you turn on the TV it is usually about how to make pancakes or gardening. That's true.
Also Canada is NOT safer than most other parts of the world. It is average in terms of personal safety. If Japan claims that I would agree.
Canada is not particularly boring but does lack its own culture (many would disagree naturally). You need to have your own social circle to fully enjoy those cities in Canada. People won't approach you asking to be best friends. Once you have that, it is not bad as long as you are not too picky.
For a tourist, Canadian cities are of course not that exciting or impressive. They have relatively short history without glorious empire history, so you can't compare them with Prague or Venice. They won't take your breath away for sure but very few cities in the world do.

I have to agree on this...for an American tourist I can understand that Canada may not be as interesting to visit as other countries.

I know. Canada sucks. We're boring because we have the Queen and are socialist. And have to wait years for medical treatment. And it seems that a lot of guys can't get laid in Toronto or in Vancouver. And don't even get me started about the fake news and the liberal lame brain media. It just about KILLS me to listen to facts. We need more guns to liven things up. Plus Canadians aren't really free anyway. We get arrested if we talk crap about the Queen. I cry me a river every day.

Well, there was the news this week about the lady dog walker who was injured in the snowy mountain and the 3 dogs with her kept her alive for 3 days and 2 nights in wet, freezing weather until Search & Rescue found them. And there was the story yesterday about the abandoned puppy found inside a diaper box outside the mall and it was discovered just in the nick of time to save its life. I thought those were exciting and heart warming news stories about dogs.
For the same reason the most peaceful times in history are the most boring to read about. It's great to live in a quiet, clean, safe city or suburb where people are reasonably happy and polite, but if nothing really stands out, why would you want to visit there?
For my part, I enjoyed the scenery of the Maritimes and British Columbia (the only two areas of Canada I've been to), and would like to see the Rockies, but that's about it. There is nothing compelling about Canadian cities which makes me long to travel there. I could say the same about the majority of US cities, for what it's worth.

.
Well the BIG news in Vancouver the last few days, is about a kitchen shop on Robson closing, because of property taxes going up.
They even did an in depth interview with the owner on CBC.
It's not always about dogs, OK, it's mostly dogs
