Apparently somebody piddled in your American Tactless Propaganda Wheaties again and made you and your wheaties even more tactless than usual about an unfolding human tragedy happening all over North America. Maybe before you go jumping to false conclusions and pointing fingers at Canada you should educate yourself about Canada's immigration policies. And then take a look at what America is doing about its southern border.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could persuade your fellow countrymen and your media to stop with all the BS American exceptionalism propaganda promoting America as the greatest place in the universe? Then maybe all those undocumented aliens will at least think twice before drinking your American exceptionalism kool aid and considering America as a good place to escape to. It isn't and people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

That would mean that they were already in the US, got into Canada, and then headed back to the US. That doesn't make sense to me.

Do we know the actual status of each of these people?

The public only knows a little bit about the Romanian family and I think that's mainly because of public curiosity about the two babies. Nothing is known about the 4 people presumed to be from India.

It makes sense to me if a desperate couple adrift in the world and at risk of being deported back to their country of origin at any time wants their babies to have the security of established dual citizenship status with Canada.

Speculating about the Romanian family, the ?father? is known to have been holding a Canadian passport for the 2 y.o. child and a Canadian birth certificate for the 1 y.o. child so it's sounding like both of those babies were born in Canada. Maybe pregnant mom was smuggled out of USA into Canada - or strolled across at Roxham Road - and stayed there with friends or family for 18 months to birth both of her babies while dad remained in USA working at illegal employment.

It would have been so much easier for dad to blend in and find illegal employment in America than it would be to find work in Canada. Then father could have sneaked back into Canada to visit occasionally and lastly to collect his wife and 2 children and smuggle them back into USA before Roxham Road was closed and the asylum loophole was changed on April 1st. They might have been operating in panic mode to get her and the babies smuggled back out of Canada before April 1st in order to avoid arrest, detainment and deportation back to Romania.

OR ...... more speculation again of course ....... maybe the mother was slave trafficked into Canada and had babies there by unknown men and the man holding the children's documents was her brother or a cousin who finally found her and was rescuing her and her babies to smuggle them back into America.

Whatever the case, nothing worked out good for anybody and all ended in tragedy. It's just one tragic story out of many other tragic smuggling and illegal immigration stories.

We could speculate uselessly about all sorts of scenarios about what could have happened on that fateful trip last week but will have to wait until the authorities have gathered enough information to tie it all together and then release the information to the public.

Well here we go, more updated information about the identities of all 8 of those people, and the information about the Romanian family belies my own speculations.

Quote:
Police sources in India have identified Vidhiben Pravinkumar Chaudhari, 24, Pravinbhai Veljibhai Chaudhari, 50, and Mitkumar Pravinbhai Chaudhari, 20. The identity of the fourth Indian national is unconfirmed at this time. Sources told CBC News that the three family members are from Gujarat — the same state in India as the family who died trying to cross the Canada-U.S. border in Manitoba in 2022.
Quote:
.... Florin Iordache had his asylum application to Canada refused and was set to be deported.

Public federal documents show that he had applied for a pre-removal risk assessment (PRRA) — one of the safeguards in place to ensure people in need of protection are not removed — which had also been denied.

Documents show he was seeking a judicial review of the refusal for his PRRA. Once the PRRA is refused, then the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is able to remove or deport them.

"In this case, it's possible that CBSA was starting to make removal arrangements for this family or perhaps, they themselves saw the writing on the wall and thought they had better options in America,"

Family members told CBC News Saturday they hadn't heard from the family of four in a week and that they knew they were planning to come to the U.S. to join family in Orlando, Fla.

They said a close relative, who hasn't seen the family in about six years, was supposed to pick them up in New York.

CBC News has spoken with a relative in Orlando who said Florin and his family had been in Canada for about a year and a half and were living in Toronto. ......

So pretty much the opposite of what our Oregon friend was saying.

Canada acting on its immigration rules, which in this case had unfortunate results. No fault of Canada.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Americans don't understand borders. Some seem to think we are responsible for protecting their side of the border. It all goes back to 911 when they at first blamed Canada. That the hijackers came from Canada. We know that is false, but at the time, my response was " so?". It's your border they crossed, so your fault they got in.
