of course, I was impatient then and I suppose decades later I still am. Made more infuriating by the blase attitude of some of my fellow Canadian to voting.
Oh I can definitely understand, especially the latter sentiment.
That said, Canada really is as user-friendly as possible when it comes to bestowing citizenship.
We actually have a close member of our family who is a PR (been here for 25 years at least) and who continues to hesitate because their country of origin does not allow dual citizenship and they don't want to renounce.
They're not actively advocating for non-citizen voting but have said that it would be nice at least at the municipal level.

I used to work for the Australian government at their High Commision on O'Connor St, at the time Australians could not gain a second citizenship without losing their Australian BUT could become Australian if they were British or Canadian first, so I knew lots of Australian born Canadian PRs who had been a Canadian PR for decades, all of them hard working tax payers and now I think of it largely responsible for getting me to think about this issue - Not sure if the Aussie laws have since changed, this was over 20 years ago

I think things have changed considerably in Australia. I looked around at several sites online and Australia now recognizes dual citizenship for its citizens who have immigrated to other countries.
