If you add up the Providence metro area to include Warwick (81,971), Pawtucket (71,172), Cranston (80,566), and East Providence (47,149), you get to approx. 460,000.
If you add up the Charleston metro area to include N. Charleston (104,054), Mount Pleasant (74,885), IoP/SI/DI (12000), Summerville (46,074), and Goose Creek (39,823), Hanahan (19,597), you get approx. 321,000.
No matter how you slice it, straight up or by metro area you can't get to your number. The only way to get there if you just take Charleston and compare it to the entire Providence metro area, which is obviously not like for like.

To answer the OP's question, yes Charleston will feel like a much smaller city than Boston, and one needs to embrace this. No international airports, no major league sport teams, no major dept. stores, no nightclub scene, etc ... but that's what makes it so special. There's loads to do all year around in a relaxed and beautiful environment, lot's of arts, culture, live music, young people everywhere, and of course the food, the beaches and much much more.
Come spend some time here and see if it fits you.
Uhhh, Charleston has major department stores and nightlife. The airport doesn't have direct international destinations but it's very easy to connect in nearby airports like Atlanta and Charlotte that do.
And the airport is pretty busy for a metro of this size, and no major league? Who cares. Theres 30-32 major teams, so its not like its common for cities to have them.

The fact that we are getting direct flights to Seattle means more to me than International flights honestly, The distance is roughly the same anyway and economically speaking it's a rather decent jump.

No international flights is right. And that matters if you're traveling international. So you don't mind stopping in Atlanta or New York on the way home from overseas, but here's what I've found.
Booking a flight say from Istanbul to Charleston cost 'more' with a stop in New York or Atlanta, than a friend of mine who books a flight from Istanbul to L.A., plus he gets a direct flight. Why? Smaller airport, less traffic, you pay more. Of course you can say, well it's worth it just to live in Charleston. At least that's how I take it.
