My apologies I have been very busy lately and have not had much time for posting.

I thought this deserved its own thread.

Elkview is getting a new retail development called "Elkview Commons". The site sites across from where Gomart and Auto Zone are located. Suposedly the development will be 44 acres and will be part of a larger TIF district planned. Reports vary on what is actually going to be built there, but some speculations and rumors I've heard include anything from Walmart, a hotel, steak house, Sheetz, Tractor Supply, fast food, medical office building, etc... Remember that this is less than a mile from where the new Herbert Hoover is being built, and there's talk that a housing development is being planned in between the school and what will be this retail center.

I lived in that area briefly about 20 years ago and they were saying they were doing this back then. Would be nice to have but most things like in WV have about 20% chance of actually happening. Hopefully this wasn't just another photo-opp and headline grabbing move by politicians in an election year.

Unfortunately you are probably right. Just about every politician in the county who could attach their name to this did do.

I believe that this will happen, but I don't see how 44 acres of development are going to happen. There isn't that big of a demand.

When I lived up that way around 2002/2003 at that time they were going to build a Walmart and a Lowes at this location. It never happened. Talk of this development seems to come about every 5 years or so but it's always just talk. It just smelled to me of a political picture opp but I would be very happy to be wrong about that.

There hasn't been any news on this project in a while. No work has been done, and no businesses have been announced.

However, today I was informed via a friend on social media of a rendering of the development on the CBRE site.

https://www.cbre.com/properties/prop...kview-wv-25071

The site says this;

Quote:
The first phase of the Elkview Commons development is comprised of six retail parcels, totaling 12 acres. All parcels are pad-ready with utilities available.

The entire Elkview Commons project includes a total of 44 acres.
The rendering shows a few restaurants, a small shopping plaza, and what appears to be a Sheetz.
