Taking another trip to Eastern TN soon to look at other areas for retirement. We have been all all over the Knoxville area and surrounding counties. This time we'll be going through Athens and down to Cleveland area. Is there a side of Cleveland like most cities that is the bad side or dumpy side that we need to steer clear? Is there a more reasonably priced side? We don't want to live in town, but outside of the city limits so not sure which side to consider.

getting off the Paul Huff Parkway is the newer side of Cleveland
I'm thinking the other end (closer to Chatt) is the older part of Cleveland

Thank you Rach1966, that's a good start, I was beginning to think I was invisible or no one knew anything about Cleveland area.

one of the nicer retirement areas (I have never been there) is Tellico Village in Loudon County
mostly high end dollar houses and I think mostly people that have retired from up north.

We're not high end dollar people and don't want to be in a retirement village. We just want to not live in a side by side subdivision and have some beautiful country around us. We've seen so many "developed" areas where they whack down all the trees and stick a house right in the middle, we aren't interested in anything like that. But we don't want to live way out in the sticks either. So we're data gathering right now and going to see what fits the best for us.

I grew up in Cleveland/Bradley County. There are some lovely areas all around. I have a preference for the more northern side I guess, since that's where I'm from. :-) If you're interested in the country, but not too far from stores/restaurants, try looking out in the Hopewell Elementary area. Georgetown Road (Highway 60), Eureka Road, and Lower River Road will all lead you out to some pretty spots. Charleston and Georgetown might show up as the mailing addresses instead of actually saying Cleveland. Send me a message if you have more particular questions about areas. There are parts of the county I like better than others, but I wouldn't call any of the county "bad."
Good luck!

I have a cousin who moved there 15 years ago with the army and has stayed ever since. We have been down about 3 times to see him and we are also looking at moving to the area. We are lucky that he is in construction so he was able to show us around a lot. There were nice areas all around Cleveland we tended to prefer being more to the north just for easy access to the interstate. Feel free to send me a message and I can give you his information if you wish to contact him in person.

Thank you, that's good to hear. We still haven't made it down there yet, but it is on our list of places to check next. I also have heard the northern part is preferred.
